Speaking recently on the Football Writers Podcast, Jonathan Northcroft stated that David Moyes’ relationship with West Ham United joint-chairman, David Sullivan, is “pretty decent”, while he also discussed the club’s sale of Grady Diangana.

Following the sale of Diangana to West Bromwich Albion, there was considerable uproar at the London Stadium, with West Ham captain Mark Noble openly stating that he was ‘angry’ about the sale of the 22-year-old, as well as many fans of the club voicing their discontent at the move.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

However, despite the fact that Northcroft has claimed that selling the winger was something Moyes “didn’t want to do,” he also said that the relationship between Moyes and Sullivan is relatively good and mentioned the fact that the Scottish manager will now be “pushing really hard” to “get his way on a lot of other things” at the club, following the sale of Diangana.

Speaking on the Football Writers Podcast, he said: “The other thing I’d have to say is [Moyes’] relationship with David Sullivan is pretty decent, actually, despite what some of the portrayals have been – they’ve both been around the block quite a lot.

“What I am pretty sure of is that having lost Diangana – which he didn’t want to do – he will be pushing really hard now to get his way on a lot of other things.

“That would be James Tarkowski, perhaps, or an experienced defender, and I’d certainly be keeping Declan Rice and pushing maybe for some of those things in the background to get West Ham back up to speed recruitment-wise and [in] other departments.”

TIF Thoughts…

From Northcroft’s comments, it would seem as if he is of the belief that Moyes will be using the unwanted sale of Diangana to get his way on a number of things that he would like to do at the club, such as bringing in Burnley’s James Tarkowski, ensuring that Rice does not move to Chelsea, with the player being heavily linked to the club, or improving the club’s recruitment structure.

So, while it has obviously been disappointing for both West Ham players and fans that they have lost a young prospect in Diangana, there could be some good that comes out of the whole saga.
