In-the-know podcaster @ExWHUemployee has recently discussed West Ham United’s interest in signing Atalanta’s Robin Gosens.

In a report by TuttoMercatoWeb earlier this summer, it was stated that the Irons are eyeing a move for the German left-back.

However, it was claimed that the Hammers were not alone in their interest as fellow Premier League outfits Chelsea and Leicester City were also keen.

Since that report was released, though, Chelsea have sealed the arrival of left-back Ben Chilwell from Leicester for £45m (per BBC).

So, in the latest episode of The West Ham Way Podcast, @ExWHUemployee discussed the transfer interest from the Hammers in Gosens.

To kick off this quiz on West Ham's 2019/20 season, which side did the Hammers' first win of the term come against?

He said: “I have been given a list of names for the [transfer targets at] left-back and right-back, none of which are close.

“Looking at the list of left-backs, the most appealing one to me – therefore probably the most unrealistic one of getting – is a fella called Robin Gosens, who plays for Atalanta.

“He was linked with Chelsea before they signed Chilwell. Looking at Wikipedia, he seems to have a decent goals record. I don’t know the fella particularly, but looking at the reports he seems to be quite highly rated.

“Therefore, I imagine he’d cost a lot of money. Therefore, I would imagine we won’t get him.

“He’s a name amongst a list of other names I was given that I don’t think is worth sharing at this point because I’m very conscious of the toxic-ness of Twitter.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the in-the-know podcaster had to say, it seems that West Ham do have some interest in signing Gosens, however, he is just on a list of possible left-back targets.

Would you be happy if West Ham signed Robin Gosens from Atalanta?

No, he's not good enough

No, he's not good enough

Yes, he's a good player

Yes, he's a good player

It is clear to see why the 26-year-old German is listed after he picked up a stellar 7.22/10 average rating during the 2019/20 Serie A season and was Atalanta’s fourth-best player (per WhoScored).

The same average rating for West Ham in the Premier League during the most recent season would have made him their second-best performer.

So, it would certainly seem the left-back has talent and that he could be a solid signing for the Irons if the link does come to fruition.
