Luke Hatfield and Joseph Masi discussed all things West Bromwich Albion on the latest edition of the Express and Star’s Baggies Broadcast podcast and during the show, they spent some time talking about Albion’s pursuit of Huddersfield Town forward Karlan Grant.

Reports have been linking the Baggies with a move for Grant of late, with the Huddersfield Town forward said to be ‘high up on their shortlist’ of attacking targets.

To kick off this quiz on Matheus Pereira, from which Portuguese club did Albion sign the playmaker?

West Brom had previously been linked with a move for the 22-year-old back in January, however, a move never ultimately materialised then.

Masi shed some light on the Baggies’ pursuit of the forward during this recent edition of the Express and Star’s Baggies Broadcast podcast, saying: “Karlan Grant – Huddersfield want £16m. Do I think that’s a fair fee? It’s not a million miles away, is it?

“If he was in Albion’s team last season, I think they would’ve been champions and promoted very soon after the restart.

“Karlan Grant’s [an] ideal one for me. What do we understand about the Karlan Grant situation? Basically, Albion haven’t got £16m to pay [for] him in the way that Huddersfield want it.

“I don’t think Albion think the £15/16m Huddersfield want is ridiculous, but whether Huddersfield want half now, half next year, or 70% now and the rest in instalments – however they want that money, Albion are not in favour of it, they want to spread it out over more payments.

“So, what we understand is negotiations are still ongoing, they’re trying to strike a deal.

“There’s a big part of me that thinks it will happen. Karlan Grant isn’t involved for Huddersfield at the minute, he’s made it abundantly clear to the club he wants to leave.”

TIF Thoughts…

So, judging by what the journalist had to say, it seems as though this transfer is one that both West Brom and Grant want to make happen, however, it appears that the deal is a difficult one for the Baggies to complete due to the way in which Huddersfield would like the transfer fee payment to be structured.

Hopefully, for Albion, they can reach an agreement with the Terriers for this transfer, as Grant scored almost twice as many Championship goals (19) as West Brom’s joint-highest league goalscorers Charlie Austin and Hal Robson-Kanu (10) each scored last season and it may be fair to say that he would be a positive addition to the West Midlands-based club’s attacking options.
