Joseph Masi and Luke Hatfield discussed all of the latest West Bromwich Albion news on the most recent edition of the Express and Star’s Baggies Broadcast podcast and during the show, the pair spent some time talking about Albion’s interest in Aston Villa forward Mbwana Samatta.

It has been reported that the Baggies ‘are desperate to add a further attacker to their ranks’ in the current transfer window.

To kick off this quiz on Matheus Pereira, from which Portuguese club did Albion sign the playmaker?

Meanwhile, Tanzanian forward Samatta, who joined Villa from Belgian side KRC Genk back in January for £9.45m, has been linked with a move away from the Villans of late, with Fenerbahce said to be interested in signing him and reports last week claiming that the Baggies are ‘trying to hijack’ that transfer.

During this recent edition of the Baggies Broadcast podcast, Masi shed some light on Albion’s pursuit of the 27-year-old, saying: “What I’ve been told is that he has been discussed by the Albion hierarchy – but the impression I’ve been given is very much that they’ve looked at, obviously, an awful lot of strikers and his name has come up in a conversation, but there isn’t much more interest in it than that.

“I can’t sit here and say 100% certain that Samatta won’t sign, but I would still be very surprised if he did.”

TIF Thoughts…

So, judging by Masi’s comments during this recent edition of the Baggies Broadcast podcast, it seems as though it is unlikely that Albion are going to sign the £8.55m-rated Villa man, despite reports linking them with a move for the forward and considering that the attacker scored just one goal in 14 Premier League appearances last season after joining Villa back in January, we feel that it would probably be a wise move for West Brom to avoid Samatta and target a proven top-flight goalscorer instead.
