Luke Hatfield and Joseph Masi discussed all the latest West Bromwich Albion news on the most recent edition of the Express and Star’s Baggies Broadcast podcast. During the show, Masi spent some time talking about the possibility of Albion making a loan move for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher in the current transfer window.

It has been reported that West Brom and Leeds United are both interested in signing the 20-year-old midfielder on loan for the 2020/21 campaign. This report also shared that Chelsea are prepared to send him out on loan to a Premier League club this term.

To kick off this quiz on West Bromwich Albion's 2019/20 season, how many points did the Baggies end the 2019/20 Championship campaign with?

Masi shed some light on the Baggies’ pursuit of the £4.86m-rated player during this recent edition of the Express and Star’s Baggies Broadcast podcast, saying: “What I understand is that there have been positive talks between Albion, Chelsea and the representatives of Conor Gallagher.

“What I also understand is that there’s other interest, Leeds are also keen on him, but from what is a good feel to me about Gallagher and Albion, it would not surprise me at all if Gallagher is an Albion player on loan this season.

“Conor Gallagher is a target – simple as that. He’s been someone that Luke Dowling has admired for a very, very long time, he’s been someone that Albion have looked at even before he moved to Charlton and Swansea on loan, he tore it up for Chelsea’s youth team, and he’s always been a player Albion have thought, ‘do you know what – he might be worth signing somewhere down the line.’”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what Masi had to say about the player, it appears as though Gallagher has been a Baggies target for quite some time.

Last season, Gallagher went on two different loan spells away from Stamford Bridge. He spent from early August until mid-January on loan with Charlton Athletic, before he was then sent on loan to Swansea City until the end of the Swans’ 2019/20 campaign in the Championship play-offs.

Over those two loan spells in the 2019/20 season, Gallagher scored six goals and provided eight assists in the Championship, as per WhoScored, earning an average match rating of 6.91/10 from his 47 appearances in England’s second tier.

The midfielder scored more league goals than all but five Albion players and made more league assists than all but one Albion player – Matheus Pereira – in England’s second-tier last term, as per WhoScored, and with that in mind, perhaps Gallagher could be a worthy addition to West Brom’s midfield options and a loan move for the Chelsea man might make sense for the Baggies.
