Ian McGarry has been speaking on the latest edition of The Transfer Window podcast and he has been talking about transfer news regarding many Premier League clubs.
One of the clubs that McGarry spent some time on was Tottenham Hotspur and he revealed some information that might help the club in their pursuit of Milan Skriniar.
It seems as if Spurs are due money from Inter Milan for the Christian Eriksen transfer that happened in January 2020.
It seems as if an instalment from the Eriksen deal could allow Spurs to sign Skriniar, and the first instalment on any potential deal would not show up in Spurs’ accounts until next summer.
He said: “It’s also our understanding here at The Transfer Window [podcast] that a second instalment on the Christian Eriksen transfer from Tottenham to Inter Milan is due to be paid on 30th September.
“Which, coincidentally, would mean that the first instalment on any deal for Skriniar could actually be written off if the clubs simply agree that there’s a transaction here which is the same.
“So, Skriniar’s transfer fee would not appear on Tottenham’s books until next summer and not this summer, which partly explains why Tottenham can potentially afford to do this because it will be a new financial year and obviously a budget will then have been amended with regards to players.”

This seems like it could be a clever financial solution and might allow Spurs to sign the 25-year-old.
The only problem now is agreeing a price as Inter want €60m (£54.39m) and Spurs are only willing to offer between €30-35m instead (£27.19-£31.73m).
So, at the moment, that is quite a gap between the valuations from both clubs and though this Eriksen instalment might help Tottenham’s finances if they sign Skriniar, they have to agree a fee first.
There is not that long left in the transfer window, so it will be interesting to see if Spurs can get the deal for Skriniar done before time runs out.
