Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano recently appeared on the Last Word On Spurs podcast and discussed all things Tottenham Hotspur and transfer related.

The north London club have already added Joe Hart, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Matt Doherty to their squad ahead of the 2020/21 season, spending a combined £30.06m on the trio (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

On the club’s plans for the remainder of the transfer window, which isn’t due to close until October 5, here is what Romano had to say with regards to what he believes Spurs are looking to do in the market. He said:

“I think they will go for a centre-back, for sure. They are also considering the opportunity of a new winger; they will go for a new winger in my opinion – and absolutely a new striker because they need a backup option for Harry Kane.”

Do you expect Spurs to sign players in all three positions during this window?

TIF Thoughts…

Jan Vertonghen left the club on a free transfer earlier this summer and has recently signed for Benfica, therefore, in our view, it is understandable why the Lilywhites may be looking to add another centre-back to their current squad.

As far as the striker situation goes, Harry Kane is the only recognised first-team player whose natural position is at centre-forward.

The £108m-rated forward had his fair share of injury problems last season but still managed to contribute 24 goals in 34 appearances (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk) – highlighting his importance to the side.

Taking the above into account, you can understand why Romano insisted Spurs need a back-up option for the England international.

In our view, Jose Mourinho would be taking a significant risk if he were to go into another season without a capable deputy for Kane in the event he picks up an injury or is unavailable for any other reason.
