On the latest episode of the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks and Jamie Brown were joined by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano to discuss some of the transfer business that could occur at Tottenham Hotspur during the rest of the summer window.

One topic of discussion on the recent podcast, which was titled ‘Summer Transfer Window (Ft. Fabrizio Romano)’, was Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

It has been suggested recently that the World Cup-winning Frenchman was set to be offered a new deal with the north London club, despite him having two years left on his current deal.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Here’s what Romano had to say about the likelihood of Lloris signing a new contract with the Lilywhites:

“They don’t want to find a situation [where] they arrive next June, at the end of next season, and they have just one year left [on Hugo Lloris’ contract].

“They are working to say that [he will be] the goalkeeper for [next season], they are convinced that he is a good goalkeeper.

“So [at] the moment they are in the first phase of talks, there is nothing completed for the new agreement for the new contract, but [it is] one of the priorities for Tottenham after the transfer window.

“I think in October they will restart the talks with his agent, to confirm to Lloris that they want him for the future. They are considering to extend his contract for one [more year] and they will talk about it from October, after the transfer window.”

TIF Thoughts…

Last season in the Premier League, Lloris averaged a very solid 6.98 rating for Spurs, which saw him rated as the club’s fifth-highest rated player across the season (per Whoscored).

Are you glad to hear that Lloris is likely to be offered a new deal?

Therefore, despite him being 33-years-old, you can see why those at the North London club are keen to tie him down to a new deal in the not too distant future, although from what Romano suggests, the former Lyon man may have to wait until after the transfer window closes.
