Speaking recently on the Ask Ornstein YouTube show, David Ornstein provided an update on the transfer rumours of the summer window, and in particular, Spurs’ apparent interest in Bournemouth forward, Joshua King.

It has been no secret that Tottenham have been looking to bring a striker into the club over the summer transfer window, with Alasdair Gold writing an article for Football.london outlining some of the club’s reported targets in the position.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Their need for a striker is largely down to the fact that since allowing Fernando Llorente to join Napoli last summer, the club have been left with only Harry Kane as a natural centre-forward in their squad.

Considering the fact that the England captain has had multiple spells on the sidelines because of injury in the past few seasons, in addition to the fact that Spurs’ fixtures are heavily congested during the opening month of the new season, going into their new campaign with only one out-and-out striker in their squad could leave the club short should anything happen to Kane.

However, Ornstein recently suggested that Spurs could potentially be looking at Bournemouth’s £14.4 million-rated Norway international as an answer to their attacking problem.

He said: “He has quite a few suitors, but I don’t know how high up he is on all of their lists. Tottenham, for instance, have him on a list, but I don’t think he’s a priority at this point in time. Complicating things are that Josh King wants to go to Manchester United – that’s his dream;  the club that he joined when he came over from Norway when he was younger. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would like to sign him, he tried in January, but ended up getting Odion Ighalo, because I think Manchester United wanted a loan with an option to buy and Bournemouth only wanted to sell him permanently.”

TIF Thoughts…

From Ornstein’s comments, it would appear that Spurs could be interested in the signing of King this summer, however, he is not a ‘priority’ for the club at the moment, while the forward would actually prefer a move back to his former club, Manchester United.

However, with the season starting in just a matter of days, and with Tottenham still only having one out-and-out striker in their squad, it is our opinion that Spurs should indeed make King their priority in the coming weeks.
