Speaking recently on the Ask Ornstein YouTube show, David Ornstein provided an update on the rumours of the summer transfer market, and, in particular, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Leicester City’s link with Real Madrid left-back, Sergio Reguilon.

Since making his Real Madrid debut as a 21-year-old back in 2018, Reguilon has gone on to make just 22 appearances for Los Blancos, over which he has scored no goals and has provided three assists.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Last season, the £22.5 million-rated defender spent the year on loan at Sevilla, where he made 31 appearances in La Liga, scoring two goals and providing four assists, averaging a highly impressive WhoScored match rating of 7.10.

The Spanish international also impressed during the club’s Europa League triumph, making six appearances in the competition, scoring one goal and providing one assist, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 7.23.

Due to these performances, interest has been high in Reguilon over the summer transfer window, with Manchester United, Tottenham and, according to Ornstein, Leicester City all said to be interested in a move for the left-back.

However, Ornstein also suggested that United’s so-called interest in the defender could actually be a move by Madrid to try and draw a bid from the north London side.

He said: “My gut says that, in the current climate, the need for finance and squad space at the Bernabeu, they’ll probably sell him. It’s said that the fee is in the region of €35 million, but this decision, that needs to be made, has not been made yet by Real Madrid. They need to make their mind up.

“As far as I know, that’s what’s holding up the process. Sevilla would like him again, but that would only be on a loan basis. Tottenham – I’m not sure about that, I don’t have any solid information. I did hear that Leicester City had inquired about him after Ben Chilwell left for Chelsea, but I don’t know if that went any further.

“Then comes Manchester United. We’ve seen all the reports, I’ve been told by some contacts there is an offer. But Old Trafford sources deny this and think they’re being used to draw a bid from Tottenham.”

TIF Thoughts…

From Ornstein’s comments, then, it is unclear whether Spurs are indeed interested in making a move for Reguilon in the transfer window, while United are denying that they are in for the defender, despite reports suggesting that they have made an offer for the 23-year-old.

As such, whether or not a move materialises from Spurs for the defender, we will have to wait and see, but, according to Ornstein, there has been no offer from north London for the Real Madrid man.
