Jack Pitt-Brooke, Charlie Eccleshare and James Maw discussed all things Tottenham Hotspur on the most recent edition of The View From The Lane podcast and during the show, they spent some time discussing Dele Alli and the possibility of him leaving the north London club.

Alli has not enjoyed a great start to the 2020/21 campaign. The £57.6m-rated man started Tottenham’s first Premier League game of the season – a 1-0 loss to Everton, but he was taken off at half time in that game and he was not even included on the bench for either of the two competitive games that the Lilywhites have played since that Premier League loss to the Toffees.

Additionally, Alli received a fairly underwhelming overall WhoScored rating of just 6.34 for his first-half performance in that loss to Everton.

Alli’s absence from the squad for Spurs’ last two games in all competitions led Pitt-Brooke to ask Eccleshare “what’s happening” with the 24-year-old at present during this recent edition of The View From The Lane podcast and Eccleshare shed some light on Alli’s current situation and discussed the possibility of him leaving the Lilywhites in response to that question.

The journalist said: “It’s a really interesting one, this. Two games running now, not even made the squad, my understanding is [Jose] Mourinho would be happy for him to go. That would most likely be a loan.

“There’s a feeling that Gareth Bale’s arrival is bad news for him, he’s one of the guys who will suffer the most and have his game time reduced even further. Dele wants to be at a club where he feels appreciated and loved, whether that’s Tottenham or elsewhere.

“Ideally, Daniel Levy would like to keep him, so it will be an interesting one, when push comes to shove, who kind of wins out there.”

TIF Thoughts…

So, judging by Eccleshare’s comments on this situation, it seems as though Mourinho is not a particularly big fan of Alli and as a result, it seems as though there are plenty of question marks over the 24-year-old attacker’s Spurs future at present.

With the current transfer window set to close on 5th October, it will be interesting to see how this situation develops and whether or not Alli will remain a Tottenham player beyond the end of the current transfer window.

If he does stay at Spurs, then hopefully, for him and for the club, he can deliver some more positive performances than the one he produced versus Everton in Spurs’ opening game of the 2020/21 campaign, or else we feel that his days may still be numbered at the north London club.
