On the latest episode of the View from The Lane podcast for The Athletic, Jack Pitt-Brooke, James Maw and Charlie Eccleshare have been reflecting on Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-0 defeat against Everton last weekend and discussing the last three episodes of the ‘All or Nothing’ documentary.

One topic of discussion on the recent episode, which was titled ‘Opening Day Defeat – The Reaction‘ was Eintracht Frankfurt striker Bas Dost.

It was reported earlier this week that Jose Mourinho has identified the 31-year-old as a potential signing during the current transfer window, as he looks to bring in another forward as a potential back-up to Harry Kane (per Daily Mail).

1. Spurs signed Alfie Devine from which League One club?

Pitt-Brooke seems to confirm this interest during the podcast, saying:

“Another name that I heard the other day was Bas Dost, the veteran, formerly of Sporting Lisbon, now at Eintracht Frankfurt. It’s not like Spurs are shopping in Harrods for this one.”

TIF Thoughts…

Pitt-Brooke certainly seems to claim that Spurs may have an interest in Dost, based on what he has heard, and he would certainly fit the mould of being a relatively cheap option, with the Daily Mail suggesting in their report that he could be available for as little as £5.5 million.

The Dutch striker is 31 now but has enjoyed prolific spells in the past, particularly with Sporting Lisbon, where he contributed 93 goals in just 127 appearances (per Transfermarkt).

Would you like to see Dost brought in as a back up to Kane?

Jose Mourinho’s side is certainly in need of another striker as soon as possible, otherwise, they risk having to rely on Kane throughout their hectic schedule of fixtures, which may result in the England captain suffering another long-term injury.

Therefore, due to the price quoted for Dost, we feel that it would be a relatively low-risk move for the Lilywhites to bring him to North London this summer.
