Speaking recently in a video posted on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold discussed Tanguy Ndombele’s recent performances for Tottenham Hotspur.

Since arriving at Spurs from Olympique Lyon in what was a £54 million deal last summer, Ndombele has gone on to feature 34 times for the club, chipping in with three goals and providing four assists, prior to the club’s fixture with Chelsea on Tuesday evening.

However, following Jose Mourinho’s appointment as Spurs boss last November, the 23-year-old featured sporadically in the league for Tottenham.

This was highlighted after the restart of the Premier League season in June, with the midfielder playing just 64 minutes of league football over the club’s last nine games of the season.

In addition to this, reports surfaced over the summer claiming that Ndombele and Mourinho had fallen out, with the midfielder reportedly telling the Spurs boss that he would never play for him again, which, unsurprisingly, led to speculation about the Frenchman’s future in north London.

However, at present, the midfielder remains at Spurs and, since the start of the new campaign, the £40.5 million-rated midfielder has featured in every league game for the club, as well as both of their Europa League qualifying fixtures.

It would seem that his recent performances have highly impressed Gold, who took the time to praise the 23-year-old in a recent video posted on his YouTube channel.

He said: “There’s no questioning the man’s talent, he’s a maverick, a beautiful player to watch when he’s in possession.

“It was about what he [did] off the ball, out of possession, [that had been a problem], and that [has been] so promising [in the recent fixtures].

“That was on top of the Southampton 45 [minutes he played], where I thought he played very well.

“[He] obviously scored the winner in Plovdiv and then, again, I felt he came off the bench [on Sunday] and looked really good.

“Mourinho’s been full of praise for him, he’s so happy with him. [He said] that [Ndombele] just realised the direction he was going in was not the right one.”

TIF Thoughts…

From Gold’s comments, it would seem as if the journalist is of the opinion that Ndombele has turned a corner at Tottenham somewhat, and it would seem, again, from the journalist’s comments, that Mourinho holds this opinion too.

When you consider how much money Spurs spent on the midfielder last summer, the fact that Ndombele is being used in the Spurs team is undoubtedly good news for the club.
