In the latest video for his YouTube channel, Football.london journalist Alasdair Gold has been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur, reflecting on their 1-0 defeat against Everton last weekend, and also sharing some of the latest transfer news surrounding the north London club.

One topic of discussion on his recent video was Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik. The Polish international has been linked with a move to Tottenham throughout the current transfer window, although recent reports have suggested that he is close to joining Roma. Jose Mourinho has now confirmed that Spurs will sign a striker during the current transfer window, and from what Gold suggests, the former Ajax man was one of the north London club’s top targets – but a switch looks unrealistic at present.

1. Spurs signed Alfie Devine from which League One club?

Here’s what he had to say about Milik in his video:

“Milik from Napoli, we know that he was one they’ve been looking at [for] a long time. I think he was up there with Mourinho’s top targets. [He scored] 14 goals for Napoli [last season]. I think with him, his preference was always to stay in Italy, Juventus and Roma looking at him and it sounds like Roma are going to get that deal done.

“From the Spurs end, there were some qualms over the fact that, I’m led to believe, he was looking for £150,000 a week, which, let’s be honest, as much as Mourinho wants to dress it up, it is for a back-up striker.”

TIF Thoughts…

From what Gold suggests, there was never likely to be an agreement between Spurs and Milik due to the wages he was demanding, as well as his apparent desire to stay in Italy.

Will you be disappointed if Spurs miss out on Milik?

Whilst the 26-year-old did contribute 11 goals in 26 Serie A appearances last season (plus a further three goals in the Champions League) – suggesting that he could be a decent backup to Harry Kane – he has struggled with serious injury problems in the past, so perhaps he wouldn’t be the most reliable of options to bring in should the England captain be forced to miss a game.
