On the latest episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks, Lee McQueen, Jamie Brown and John Wenham provided immediate reaction to Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-1 win against Lokomotiv Plovdiv in the second qualifying round of the Europa League, whilst also discussing the latest transfer rumours surrounding the north London club.

One topic of discussion on the recent podcast, which was titled ‘Ndombele’s moment‘, was Southampton striker Danny Ings. It has been suggested recently that the Lilywhites are keen on signing the former Liverpool man this summer, as they look to bring in another striker ahead of the window closing, perhaps to take some of the goalscoring burden off Harry Kane.

1. Spurs signed Alfie Devine from which League One club?

McQueen certainly seems delighted by the prospect of signing the 28-year-old England international, as he praised him during the podcast:

“Let’s go and get Danny Ings. If the club now has sort of said, ‘yeah we’ve potentially been linked with him’, Danny Ings’ head might be slightly turned. He’s [got] two years left on his contract. His stats, his duels, his goals, his work rate [are] absolutely phenomenal.

“If you put him head-to-head with Kane last year – Kane didn’t kick a ball for six months so there’s a caveat – but if you put him up against Kane, he was just as good as him. In actual fact, [in terms of] tracking back and pressing, he was even better, so he’d be an unbelievable signing.”

TIF Thoughts…

Whilst Kane was out injured for a significant period following a hamstring injury, he did still manage to make 29 appearances in the Premier League last season, scoring 18 goals and averaging a strong 7.33/10 rating (as per WhoScored). Meanwhile, Ings appeared in every top-flight fixture for the Saints, notching 22 goals and earning an average rating of 7.12 (per Whoscored), which suggests the pair did indeed have similar campaigns when it came to goalscoring, at least.

Do you agree that Ings was just as good as Kane last season?

If Spurs were able to convince Southampton to let him go, then his goal record from last season in particular certainly suggests that he could be a stellar addition to Mourinho’s side, and it would be interesting to see him play alongside, or even compete with Kane for that starting striker spot at Tottenham.
