On the latest episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks, Jamie Brown, Lee McQueen and Chris Cowlin have been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur and have been providing instant reaction to the Lilywhites’ 3-1 win against KF Shkendija in the Europa League qualifying fixture.

One topic of discussion on the recent podcast, which was titled: ‘Superb Sonny‘, was reported Spurs transfer target Milan Skriniar. The North London club have been heavily linked with a move for the Inter defender in the past week or so, with recent reports suggesting that representatives of the two sides have met in Milan to try and negotiate a fee for the Slovakian defender (per Fabrizio Romano).

Here’s what Brown had to say about the 25-year-old on the podcast:

“I think it’s definitely a deal that will get done. We’re clearly attempting to try and get a deal done for him. I think the other big factor is that he’s a guy that Jose Mourinho clearly wants. I think that when he was at Manchester United, he tried to sign Skriniar. We’ve already seen him bring in [Gareth] Bale, who’s a guy that he’s tried to sign in the past. Certainly, [a] central defender is one that we’re going to want to bring in and he’s clearly identified the need for a top central defender.”

He also adds: “He’s had a difficult season at Inter Milan, Skriniar, but he’s very highly rated.”

TIF Thoughts…

Brown is right to suggest that Jose Mourinho wanted to sign Skriniar during his time as Manchester United boss, so he certainly does seem to be a big fan of the centre-back. Spurs are arguably yet to replace Jan Vertonghen, who left the club on a free transfer earlier in the summer, so perhaps the Inter man will be able to step in as the Belgian’s long-term replacement.

Do you think Skriniar will join Spurs?

It will be interesting to see if Spurs can conclude a deal for the former Sampdoria man before the window shuts in October, and who he will replace in Mourinho’s starting 11.
