Spurs fans: How well can you remember the last week of THFC action? - 1. Who scored Spurs' first goal of the season?

One of the topics that came up while he was talking about Spurs was Eric Dier, and it seems that Achillea does not rate the former Sporting Lisbon man.

It seems as if Achillea believes that Mourinho sees Dier as his new John Terry, but he would much rather play Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld together rather than having Dier as one of the centre-backs.

He said: “I think, for me, [Jose] Mourinho sees Dier as his new John Terry.

“I think he just sees him as that kind of player, and it just has not worked yet, at all.

“I don’t understand. I said throughout the whole of the Premier League restart that we hardly conceded any goals when Toby [Alderweireld] and [Davinson] Sanchez were the partnership – as soon as Dier comes back in, we had that abysmal game against Bournemouth.

“It didn’t seem right to continue playing him, and I think Toby-Sanchez provides a pretty good balance of experience, pace and power.”

Do you think Mourinho sees Dier as his new Terry?

TIF Thoughts…

It seems weird that Achillea has suggested this considering Mourinho has never compared Terry to Dier and the ‘abysmal game‘ against Bournemouth didn’t involve Dier.

This season in the Premier League Dier has turned in performances of 6.41 and 6.9, so one pretty low rating and one decent one.

However, in the two games that Dier has started as a centre-back against Everton and Southampton, Spurs have conceded three goals.

So, you could see why he isn’t a fan of Dier at centre-back, but his example from last season is poor, considering Dier wasn’t even involved in the game, and Dier did play quite well against Southampton.

It will be intriguing to see if Mourinho continues to start the England international as a centre-back in the upcoming Premier League games.
