Football journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed some details on the possibility of Tottenham Hotspur right-back Serge Aurier leaving the club this summer.

This comes after Romano recently made a special guest appearance on Spurs-themed podcast Last Word On Spurs where he spoke about a number of transfer-related news topics concerning Jose Mourinho’s side at the moment.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

On the subject of Aurier, who has been linked with a move away from Spurs this summer with AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen interested in signing the defender, Romano had this to say on the current situation.

He said: “Both clubs are interested, for sure – AC Milan, the same for Bayer Leverkusen – they are in talks with his agents, so they are considering a move, but for sure, Tottenham will not accept any bid for less than €20 million.

“I am told that AC Milan, like one week ago, made a bid [of] around €14 million or €15 million for Serge Aurier including add-ons and Tottenham said no. They won’t sell him for less than €20 million.

“They consider him as a good player, they are not desperate to sell him, so if a good bid will arrive, they can consider it, like €20 million as I told you, but if this kind of bid will not arrive this summer, the player also can stay.”

Aurier signed for Spurs back in the 2017 summer transfer window from French club Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of £22.5 million.

Since then, the defender has gone on to make a total of 83 appearances for Spurs in which he has managed to rack up a total of six goals and 14 assists for the club.

The 2019/20 Premier League season saw Aurier make 33 league appearances for Spurs, scoring one goal and providing five assists in the process.

Aurier’s performances in those appearances earned him an impressive season rating of 7.06/10, making him Spurs’ third-highest rated player for their previous league campaign (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

From what Romano said in the podcast, it appears as though Spurs would be willing to sell Aurier this summer if a bid comes in that is relatively close to the fee that the London club paid for him back in 2017, which is understandable as they will likely not want to make too much of a financial loss on him.

It will be interesting now to see if any club will come in with a bid that Spurs consider to be an acceptable fee for the defender.
