Speaking recently on the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano discussed Tottenham Hotspur’s recent re-signing of Gareth Bale, and the player’s hopes to remain at the club beyond his current loan deal.

After leaving Spurs to join Real Madrid in what was then a world record £85.3 million deal, the Welshman went on to feature 251 times for Los Blancos, scoring 105 goals and providing 68 assists along the way.

However, after featuring just 16 times in LaLiga last season, as well as an apparent falling out with Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane, it was reported that the 31-year-old was free to leave the Spanish side this summer, with Tottenham jumping at the chance to bring Bale back to north London, landing him on a one-year loan deal.

However, despite the fact that this move is temporary, Romano recently stated, on the latest episode of the Here We Go podcast, that Bale is keen to remain at Spurs beyond his current short-term spell at the club, and that the forward has no intention of returning to Madrid.

He said: “What we can say is that Gareth Bale wants to stay. He’s convinced he can stay at Tottenham – not just for one season on loan, but [that] Tottenham can keep Gareth Bale also for the future. This is the idea of the player, he wants to play in the Premier League, he’s so happy at Tottenham.

“He’s not feeling like, ‘Okay, [I’ll] stay here [for] just one season on loan.’ He’s trying to warn Real Madrid [saying], ‘pay attention, I’m not staying here just on loan. Get ready, because next summer, you have to negotiate with Tottenham because [I] want to stay here.'”

TIF Thoughts…

From Romano’s comments, it is evident that the journalist is of the belief that Bale is intent on remaining at Spurs beyond his current loan deal with the club.

It is not difficult to imagine this being a problem for Real Madrid, after all, it was reported that they are paying 60% of the Welshman’s salary while he is on loan in north London, as they do not want him around the club.

So, come next summer, this will certainly be a deal to keep an eye on, but, for now, Spurs fans can look forward to the moment that Bale takes to the field as a new Tottenham Hotspur signing for the second time in his career.
