On the latest episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks and Jamie Brown were joined by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano to discuss some of the transfer business that could occur at Tottenham Hotspur during the rest of the summer window.

One topic of discussion in the recent podcast, which was titled ‘Summer Transfer Window (Ft. Fabrizio Romano)’, was Spurs midfielder Tanguy Ndombele. The Frenchman joined the Lilywhites from Lyon in a club-record deal last summer but has endured a difficult debut season in the Premier League, averaging a disappointing 6.71/10 rating for his performances in the top flight, whilst fitness issues also regularly proved to be a problem for the 23-year-old.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Following the Premier League restart, the French international made just two substitute appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side, so it has perhaps been unsurprising to see him get linked with a move away from Spurs this summer, with Inter amongst the teams interested.

Here’s what Romano had to say about Ndombele and his future at Spurs on the podcast: (10:38)

“I think the situation [for] Ndombele is if Tottenham will keep him, he will fight for Tottenham, he is not desperate to leave the club. But if you [receive] an important bid, the player will not refuse, he is ready to leave. So he will be really respectful [of] Tottenham’s decisions and his particular situation because the board [at] Tottenham are convinced that Ndombele is a top player.

“He had a season that [was] not at his level, with his skills, and the real problem, in my opinion, is that Jose Mourinho is not so happy with the mentality of Ndombele.

“He wants more from Ndombele and that’s why the club don’t want to sell him, but Jose wants the club to consider some possible bids. For example, Inter will try to sign him.”

TIF Thoughts…

From the sounds of things, the board at Tottenham are set to keep their faith in Ndombele and allow him more time to prove himself at the north London club. However, it seems as if the Frenchman will have to improve his mentality and show Mourinho why he deserves to be in the team, otherwise his time with the Lilywhites could be cut short.

Do you think Ndombele has what it takes to make it at Spurs?

No

If the 23-year-old can consistently perform at the level he did in the Champions League last season; where he averaged an impressive 7.34 rating, then there is no reason why he can’t make it at Spurs.
