Speaking recently on the Ask Ornstein YouTube show, David Ornstein provided an update on the injury of Tottenham Hotspur’s recent loan signing, Gareth Bale.

After leaving Spurs for Real Madrid in what was a £90.9 million deal back in 2013, Bale went on to feature 251 times for Los Blancos, scoring 105 goals and providing 68 assists along the way.

However, with it being said that Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane and Bale have a ‘broken relationship‘, the door was open for the 31-year-old to leave Madrid in the current transfer window, with Spurs jumping at the chance to re-sign their former player, landing him on a one-year loan deal.

The Athletic reported that Tottenham will be paying ’40 per cent of his £600,000 a week salary’, meaning that Bale is paid ‘comfortably more per week by Spurs than their next highest earners, Harry Kane and Tanguy Ndombele’ – both of whom are said to earn £200,000 a week.

However, Bale picked up a knee injury while on international duty with Wales recently, with The Guardian reporting that Spurs ‘anticipate Bale being match fit after the October international break’, although, Ornstein appears to be of the belief that this return date has been exaggerated by Spurs somewhat.

He said: “Bale does actually have a small injury at the moment, that’s going to keep him out for a couple of weeks.

“There were suggestions it could be longer, but I think that might be a bit economical, a bit clever [from Spurs] to make sure he doesn’t go away on the international break, and that he’s ready to go with Tottenham after that.”

TIF Thoughts…

From Ornstein’s comments, it would certainly appear as if the journalist is of the belief that Tottenham may have stretched their estimate for how long Bale will be unavailable for, to ensure that he does not travel to meet up with the Wales squad for their fixtures against England, Republic of Ireland and Bulgaria in October.

So, it would seem, at present, that we will not see Bale take to the field in a Spurs shirt for a little while longer yet, but, from what Ornstein has to say, it would appear as if the winger will be back to full fitness after the next international break.
