Football journalist David Ornstein has been sharing the latest update surrounding Tottenham Hotspur full-back Danny Rose and his future at the north London club.

This comes after Ornstein recently co-hosted the latest episode of The Athletic’s Ornstein & Chapman Podcast where he discussed the latest news stories surrounding a number of Premier League clubs at this moment in time.

1. Spurs signed Alfie Devine from which League One club?

After Ornstein himself recently shared the news that Rose was not given a squad number for Spurs’ senior squad this season and was not even told about it by the club, he discussed this issue on the podcast and what the future could hold for the left-back.

He said: “Some people may say, ‘well, if he’s not included in the first-team squad plans, then he shouldn’t expect to have a number’, but I think after 13 years’ service, he’ll feel that he should have at least been told, ‘you’re not going to have a number.’

“There is a possibility, however unlikely, that he stays if he doesn’t secure a move, and then what happens? Well, presumably he will continue training with the U23s, that’s who he’s been training with so far since returning and the plan is for that to continue.

“He did have a small calf injury, but he’s fully fit after that now. There’s interest in him from Genoa, that’s been quite widely reported. It’s not as advanced as some people had made out, but there is interest.

“There are also some clubs I think in Spain and Turkey and then one in England as well, so it’s very likely that Danny Rose will be on his way out of Tottenham, but perhaps it’s not the best note to have ended it on.”

Do you feel sorry for Danny Rose?

Tottenham signed Rose back in 2007 from Leeds United’s U18 squad in a deal worth a reported fee of £900k.

Since then, the full-back has gone on to make 214 appearances for Spurs, in which he has scored 10 goals and provided 29 assists in a Tottenham shirt (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

It’s sad to hear that Rose could be heading for the exit at Spurs before the current window shuts after being at the club for such a long period of time.

However, if Rose does, in fact, end up staying at Spurs and doesn’t find himself a new club in the coming weeks, it would be safe to assume that he wouldn’t be too happy at being at a club that did not give him a squad number for the current season without telling him.
