Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has revealed that the north London club are interested in signing Benfica striker Carlos Vinicius.

This comes after Gold released a video on his YouTube channel where he discussed the latest news topics concerning Jose Mourinho’s side at this moment in time.

1. Spurs signed Alfie Devine from which League One club?

On the topic of some potential new attacking reinforcements the club currently have on their radar, Gold had this to say on Vinicius.

He said: “Another 25-year-old from Benfica, scored 24 goals [last season]. He is someone that Tottenham have looked at as well. Talented goalscorer; can he do it in the English league? We will see, but for him, I do wonder whether it is the fee with him [that] would be a bit of pricey one.

“Tottenham, as far as I’m aware, their ideal scenario would be to get someone in on a loan with a view to buy. That’s not a particularly attractive proposition for selling clubs, unless it’s a guaranteed to buy, which is something Tottenham don’t really do often.”

Benfica signed Vinicius back in the 2019 summer transfer window from Italian side Napoli for a fee of £15.3 million. Since then, the Brazilian striker, who is currently valued at £18 million, has made 48 appearances for the Portuguese club in which he has managed to score an impressive 24 goals, as Gold mentioned in his video.

TIF Thoughts…

The only striker Spurs currently have in their squad is Harry Kane so it’s understandable why the London club would be looking at Vinicius as an option to add some attacking depth to their team.

However, with Vinicius having such an impressive goalscoring record for Benfica, you would think that the club would be reluctant to let the striker leave unless a significant transfer fee was offered to them for his services.

With the current summer transfer window closing in early October, it will be interesting to see if Spurs manage to sign someone that can play in the centre-forward position and whether Vinicius will be that player or not.
