On the most recent episode of the TIFO Football Podcast for The Athletic, Alex Stewart, Joe Devine, Chris Waugh and Seb Stafford-Bloor have been discussing some of the ‘sensible transfers’ that Newcastle United should consider this summer.

One player discussed during the podcast was Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose, with the 30-year-old having spent the second half of the 2019/20 season on loan with the Toon. Waugh suggests that despite his disappointing form during his time with the Magpies, with the left-back averaging a poor 6.47 rating for his performances in the top-flight, Steve Bruce is still a big fan of him and he could join permanently this summer.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

Here’s what the journalist had to say about the former England international during the podcast:

“Well, Danny Rose obviously came to Newcastle on loan for the second half of last season and he did okay in the end; he was a little bit disappointing early on, didn’t look 100% match-fit. Steve Bruce really likes him, and I think in an ideal world, he would try and sign him but it’s certainly not an ideal world at Newcastle United at the moment.”

TIF Thoughts…

It is unsurprising to hear that Waugh describes Newcastle United’s current situation as far from ideal, considering Mike Ashley remains as the owner following the failed takeover, which has seemingly left Steve Bruce with very little to spend during the transfer window.

Do you think Rose will join Newcastle this summer?

With Rose currently valued at £14.4 million by Transfermarkt, it will be interesting to see if Tottenham are willing to let him go for cheap this summer, otherwise, it may be difficult to see him returning to St James’ Park on a permanent deal.
