Fans of Newcastle United have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports that Mike Ashley has called off takeover talks with two separate groups.
According to a report by the Northern Echo, the Newcastle owner has ‘called off negotiations’ with Henry Mauriss and the Bellagraph Nova Group, and although he ‘remains keen to sell up’ he is now ‘resigned to remaining in charge of Newcastle United for the whole of next season’.
After these reports were relayed on Twitter by NUFC 360, fans of the club flocked to have their say on the matter, with many stating their belief that the fact Ashley will still be owning their team next season means that they will suffer relegation to the Championship, while others simply shared their dismay at the news.
That’s us relegated then I’m sorry to say but like all of our fan base I fear the worse this coming season sorry

This is so depressing. I had hoped to go back to SJP this season under new owners, but I can’t. Not with that man still there. Thanks @premierleague You’ve helped destroy my club even more #NUFC https://t.co/0Ti4eeLszp

It is fair to say that Newcastle supporters are not the biggest fans of Mike Ashley, after the businessman renamed St. James’s Park as the Sports Direct Arena, giving Alan Pardew an eight-year-long contract as manager of the club and letting Rafael Benitez leave the club, as well as repeatedly failing to sell the club, amongst many other things.
As such, it is quite understandable as to why these Newcastle fans are so distraught at the news that Ashley will indeed be in charge of the club going forward, when it had looked very likely earlier this summer that the Toon were set for a great deal of investment following an accepted £300 million takeover bid from a Saudi Arabian-backed consortium.
Do you think the club will be relegated next season?
Yes

It’s all gone to plan…. there was never a take over on… he’s laughing his head off…and the fans when allowed will be banging on the door to get inside…it will never change.

For now, it looks as if these Newcastle fans will have to endure yet another season under Ashley, something which, as can be seen from their comments, has not gone down well at all.
