Jim Salveson, Marley Anderson and Niall McCaughan discussed all the latest Premier League news on a recent edition of the Football Social Daily podcast and during the show, Anderson shared his thoughts on recent reports linking Arkadiusz Milik with a move to Newcastle United.

Milik has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur during the current transfer window but recently, Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport claimed that the Napoli striker could be subject to a bid from the Toon.

A nice easy one to start off with. Who scored Newcastle's opening goal of the 2020/21 PL season?

However, during this recent edition of the Football Social Daily podcast, Anderson shared his thoughts on the reports linking Milik with Newcastle and he didn’t seem very convinced about the likelihood that this transfer will happen.

He said: “He’s just far too good to come to Newcastle, he really is. He’s been banging in the goals in Italy for a while now and I think he’s got frozen out at Napoli a little bit.

“It’s a classic press thing of ‘let’s just link any club with Arkadiusz Milik’, and he’s a good striker – don’t get me wrong, he’s a very good striker – but what Newcastle bring you in terms of press coverage is, the fans will get excited about it.

“It’s just paper talk. There’s never any talks in things like this, I don’t think, and when we’ve already spent £20m on Callum Wilson, he’s clearly going to be our number-one choice, and then we’ve got Andy Carroll and Joelinton to back him up, which – don’t get me wrong, aren’t the strongest of backups, however, from a club point of view, are you going to go and spend more money on getting somebody else as well just in case they don’t do well?”

Do you think that Newcastle are likely to sign Milik?

TIF Thoughts…

So, as can be seen in what Anderson had to say during this recent edition of the Football Social Daily podcast, he clearly believes that there is no truth in the reports linking the Toon with a move for Milik.

Considering that the Toon have got a net transfer spend of £34.88m in the current transfer window, which is a larger net transfer spend than they have had in any season since the 2015/16 season, and seeing as their largest purchase so far in the current transfer window has been a striker – in the form of Wilson, who they signed from Bournemouth for £20.03m, we feel it’s understandable why the podcaster feels this way and we agree that this transfer is unlikely to occur.
