Football finance expert Kieran Maguire caught the attention of some Newcastle United fans recently after he posted a tweet sharing the accounts of Mike Ashley’s MASH Holdings company which owns Newcastle United.

In his tweet, Maguire shared that the company made £178m in operating profits for the year, while it is also stated in the post that £488m rests in the accounts published on 25th September.

Additionally, Maguire also explained that Newcastle United accounts for less than 5% of the company.

After Maguire relayed this news via a tweet, plenty of Toon fans replied to the football finance expert’s post to share their thoughts on the MASH Holdings accounts.

Some Newcastle United fans replied to this post to call for more of the company’s money to be invested in the football club.

A nice easy one to start off with. Who scored Newcastle's opening goal of the 2020/21 PL season?

One particular Toon supporter shared their amazement at the amount of gross profit the accounts show that the company made, while another Newcastle fan shared some disgruntlement over how much of the company’s profit the football club contributes to.

Meanwhile, some other Newcastle fans replied to Maguire’s tweet to jest that Ashley is ‘skint.’

Are you surprised by these accounts?

So, as can be seen from these Newcastle fans’ reactions to this tweet, it seems as though some are surprised by how much money MASH Holdings has and some seem to believe that more of this money should be invested in the football club.

With less than two weeks remaining in the current Premier League transfer window, it will be interesting to see how much, if any, more money the Toon spend in the transfer market now that these accounts have been made public and shared amongst Newcastle supporters.
