Manchester United-oriented journalist Andy Mitten has recently made a claim about the situation of the club’s Brazilian midfielder, Fred.

Mitten was a guest on the latest episode of the OTB Football podcast and he discussed many issues involving the Old Trafford-based club.

He was asked about potential incomings and outgoings at United and one player that he focused on was Fred. The journalist revealed that United could look to sell him if clubs make offers of around £50 million for the Brazilian.

Can you score 20/20 on this Premier League quiz? Starting off easy, who is the top scorer in the Premier League this season?

TeleRadioStereo (via RomaPress) has recently claimed that Roma and United are discussing a potential loan deal for Fred that would include an obligation to buy. Fred is currently valued at £15.75 million according to Transfermarkt.

Mitten talked about Fred and gave some insight into United’s stance about the midfielder. He said: “You mentioned [Nemanja] Matic and Fred. Okay, maybe one of them will go, but both of them ended up having good seasons – especially in the second half of the season.”

Should United look to sell Fred this summer?

No

No

“Neither of them would be on the top list of six players who I think United will be looking to get rid of, but if a £50 million bid comes in for one of them – more likely to be Fred than Matic, who’s a bit older, then United probably would sell.”

TIF Thoughts…

The 27-year-old Fred earned a rating of 6.87 in the Premier League last season and in the club’s Europa League campaign, he earned an impressive rating of 7.33 (as per WhoScored).

In the Premier League, he was the club’s ninth-best player and in the Europa League, only four players picked up better ratings than the Brazilian (as per WhoScored).

It shows that Fred is an important player for United and while it remains to be seen if Donny van de Beek’s arrival impacts him or not, the 27-year-old ‘has no desire’ to leave United.

So, it might be safe to assume that he won’t leave the Old Trafford club this summer.
