Liverpool Echo journalist Matt Addison discussed all the latest Liverpool news on the most recent edition of the Blood Red podcast’s Morning Bulletin and the Reds reporter spent some time talking about a potential €5m (£4.55m) fee that the Merseyside club might be set to receive from Barcelona due to an appearance-based clause related to Philippe Coutinho.

As explained by Spanish outlet Sport, the Reds included several clauses in their deal to sell Coutinho to Barcelona back in January 2018 that would see them receive add-on fees for the player’s transfer ‘as time passed’ and this report also explains that the Merseyside club could be on the verge of receiving some more money from the Catalan giants due to Barca boss Ronald Koeman’s ‘decision to keep the Brazilian midfielder in the first-team.’

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

According to Sport, once the ex-Reds man makes another 15 appearances at Camp Nou, Barcelona ‘will have to pay’ a fee of €5m (£4.55m) and Addison discussed that claim during the latest edition of the Blood Red podcast’s Morning Bulletin, saying: “There was the story when Bayern Munich won the Champions League that Liverpool would get financial benefit from that.

“That wasn’t true at the time, but this one, it appears, is true. If Coutinho does stay, which now appears to be the most likely situation after he held talks with Ronald Koeman since that final for Bayern Munich a few weeks ago, if he [makes] 15 more appearances, that would take him to 90 matches for Barcelona in total and that would give Liverpool an extra €5m.”

TIF Thoughts…

So, as can be seen in what the Liverpool Echo journalist had to say, it appears as though he believes that there is a possibility that the Reds can receive this financial benefit, as claimed by Sport, with the Brazilian looking likely to stay at Camp Nou this term, after being sent on loan to Bayern Munich for the 2019/20 campaign.

While it may be fair to say that the reported fee of £4.55m is not an extremely high fee for the Reds to receive, with the total value of the club’s squad currently standing at £921.15m, according to Transfermarkt, this can only be good news for the Reds and so, hopefully, for Jurgen Klopp’s side, Coutinho does go on to make another 15 appearances for Barca this term and the Merseyside club can then receive some extra cash for the player who they sold back in January 2018.
