LFC Daytrippers contributor Grizz Khan has been discussing the Liverpool centre-back Sepp van den Berg during a recent edition of the podcast.

The 18-year-old joined the Merseyside giants from the Dutch club PEC Zwolle back in July 2019 in a deal reportedly worth £1.71m (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk). Despite being at the club for over a year now, the defender has made just four appearances for the first-team, all of which have come in the domestic cup competitions.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

With Dejan Lovren having recently left the club for Zenit St. Petersburg, it could be argued that Van Den Berg is now a step closer to Jurgen Klopp’s first team, however, it’s clear from his comments that in Grizz Khan’s view, the player is unlikely to make it at Anfield. Here is what he had to say:

“I could have egg on my face in two, three years when he’s the new Jaap Stam – [but] that fella won’t play a first-team Premier League game for us.”

TIF Thoughts…

Based on his words, we can infer that the Dutch Under-19 international is not a player the podcaster rates particularly highly. Last season, he made 22 appearances in all competitions with the majority of those coming in the Premier League 2 (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

In our view, it feels slightly unfair to write off the player’s chances of establishing himself as a first-team player so early on in his career. However, given the fact he is yet to play a Premier League game, it is understandable why some may be unsure about whether or not he has what it takes to succeed at a club like Liverpool.
