Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on the latest edition of his Here We Go podcast about transfers concerning many Premier League clubs.

During the opening game of the 2019/20 Premier League season, which Norwich City player scored an own goal to open the scoring?

One of the clubs that he spent some time on was Liverpool.

However, Romano focused more on outgoings than incomings, with one potential player leaving Anfield being Georginio Wijnaldum, who has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona.

Romano suggests the 29-year-old is happy at Anfield and is negotiating to extend his deal with the Reds, and he has not agreed anything with Barcelona.

He said: “Wijnaldum is talking with Liverpool about the possibility of extending his contract.

“Wijnaldum is happy at Liverpool, so it’s just a life decision to take; if he wants to move to Barcelona, if he wants to change the league, but he [does] not have any agreement yet with Barcelona.

“So, the deal is complicated for Wijnaldum.”

Do you think Wijnaldum will leave?

TIF Thoughts…

Wijnaldum has been with Liverpool since the summer of 2016 and has gone to make 188 appearances for the club, winning the Premier League and the Champions League while with the Reds.

He has less than one year left on his current deal and Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman reportedly wants him to swap Anfield for the Nou Camp (as per De Telegraaf via The Guardian), but Romano is of the belief that the Dutch midfielder is happy with the Reds.

Liverpool are thought to be close to completing the signing of Thiago Alcantara, so Wijnaldum could be given less game time due to the number of central midfielders the Reds will have, so it could be argued that a move to Barca could become tempting.

However, if he is happy at Liverpool, as Romano claims, then Wijnaldum could yet end up signing a new contract and fight for his place.
