First up in this Jordan Henderson quiz, how old is the Liverpool captain?

Whilst talking about Liverpool’s recent transfer swoop for Diogo Jota, Gorst shared some information on the process of how the club signs their players.

He said: “It’s very much a painstaking process, it’s not just the case of seeing a player from afar and thinking that he’s going to be good so they throw a bid into their team – it’s all very much calculated, and the personality checks are developed almost as much as the playing ability on the pitch.

“We noticed it with Kostas Tsimikas that was something that we were told about as well, so it’s very much a staple of Michael Edwards’ working, if you like, with the players who are coming into the club to make sure that yes, they are of the required standards from a playing standpoint, but these are going to be characters who are going to fit in well with the group – and it does seem to be that Diogo Jota is an ideal fit from everything that we’re led to believe.”

As well as Jota and Tsimikas as Gorst mentioned in the podcast, Liverpool have also signed Thiago Alcantara during this current summer transfer window, resulting in the Merseyside club spending a total figure of £78.93 million so far (per Transfermarkt).

On the pitch, Liverpool have got their 2019/20 Premier League season off to a great start after beating Leeds United at Anfield followed by their recent 2-0 win over Chelsea to put them in fourth place in the league table underneath Leicester City, Everton and Arsenal.

TIF Thoughts…

It’s interesting to hear that Liverpool value personality and character just as much as footballing ability when they look at potential incoming transfers. This makes you wonder whether any other club in the Premier League uses the same criteria when they’re looking at bringing new players in.
