Liverpool journalist Paul Gorst has been sharing some information on the Reds’ interest in Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ben White.

This comes after Gorst recently made an appearance on the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast where he spoke about a number of subjects concerning the Merseyside club.

First up in this Jordan Henderson quiz, how old is the Liverpool captain?

After Liverpool were previously linked with a move for White earlier in the current summer transfer window, Gorst had this to say on the matter.

He said: “I was made aware that Liverpool had scouted him extensively while he was on loan at Leeds last season, but there was an acceptance that he was always going to sign a new contract with Brighton and I think he’s coming in as Shane Duffy’s replacement at the Amex this season.

“I think not just Liverpool, I think there will be other clubs keeping a close eye on how he develops and how he gets on in his first full season in the Premier League, and if he does continue on an upward trajectory, then I think we might see Liverpool – you can’t say return to the table because they were never at it, but they’re definitely keeping an eye on him, and they will continue to do that and maybe next summer it could be a case of he’s someone who they do look at.”

As Gorst mentioned in the podcast, White spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Leeds United during their promotion-winning season in the Championship.

White ended up playing every single minute of league action for Marcelo Bielsa’s side last season, earning himself an impressive season rating of 7.09/10 (per WhoScored).

Earlier this month, White signed a new four-year deal at Brighton after Leeds tried to sign the Englishman on a permanent basis earlier in the window.

TIF Thoughts…

Given how impressive White was for Leeds last season, it’s no surprise the club tried to sign him permanently and that Liverpool were also keeping an eye on the defender.

It’ll be interesting now to see how White, who is currently valued at £4.95 million, fares in the Premier League for Brighton this season and if any other clubs try to sign him in the next summer transfer window.
