Liverpool journalist James Pearce has shared the latest update surrounding a potential move from the Merseyside club for Thiago Alcantara.
This comes after Pearce recently made an appearance on The Athletic’s Red Agenda Podcast where he discussed the latest news topics surrounding the club at the moment.
On the subject of Thiago, who has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield this summer, Pearce shared this update on the potential deal.
He said: “My information is that, that is still massively relying on what happens with [Georginio] Wijnaldum’s future, and if Wijnaldum was to push for a move and if Barcelona were to table an acceptable offer, then of course, Thiago becomes, I think, a perfect, ready-made replacement to go and get, because Liverpool know he is available and keen to make that move.”
Since joining Bayern Munich back in 2013 from Barcelona for a fee of £22.5 million, the Spaniard has made a total of 235 appearances in which he has racked up a total of 31 goals and 37 assists for the Bundesliga side.
Thiago’s last appearance for Bayern saw him put in a man-of-the-match performance against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final last month.

In relation to Georginio Wijnaldum, who has entered the last year of his contract at Liverpool and has recently been linked with a move to Barcelona this summer, it appears that his future at Liverpool will be the main factor in whether the club sign Thiago or not as Pearce said.
It seems now that Liverpool fans will have to wait and see if Wijnaldum does sign for Barcelona this summer and whether it will pave the way for the Merseyside club to make a move for Thiago to replace him.
Given how impressive Thiago was for Bayern in the Champions League final, this demonstrates he is a top player that can perform at the highest level.
