Speaking recently on The Ornstein & Chapman Podcast, David Ornstein provided an update on the situation of Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster and the likelihood of him leaving the club.

Since making his Liverpool debut in September last year, in the club’s 2-0 Carabao Cup victory against Milton Keynes Dons, Brewster has only gone on to make another three appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side, failing to score or provide an assist in any of his fixtures for the club.

First up in this Steven Gerrard quiz, how old is the former Liverpool man?

However, in the second half of last season, the £4.86 million-rated 20-year-old highly impressed during a loan spell at Swansea City, scoring 11 goals in 22 appearances for the Welsh side.

It would seem as if this spell at Swansea has convinced a number of Premier League sides that the England U21 international is worth taking a punt on, with Crystal Palace and Sheffield United both said to be keen on taking the striker away from Anfield prior to the end of the summer transfer window.

The situation of Brewster is something that Ornstein touched on in a recent episode of The Ornstein & Chapman Podcast, with the journalist stating that it would appear more likely that the 20-year-old will be leaving Liverpool permanently, rather than on another loan deal.

He said: “Rhian Brewster, I think, is most likely to be [a] permanent [departure] actually, which would come as a surprise to many.

“I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but the conversations at the moment with the likes of Sheffield United, Aston Villa [and] Crystal Palace, have been geared around a permanent deal.

“I think they’re judging the valuation [of Brewster] pretty much in line with what they sold Dominic Solanke to Bournemouth for, which was around £16 million, plus £3 million in add-ons, so around £19 million.

“It’s impossible at Liverpool to breach that front three at the moment, and so somebody like Brewster, who wants to be playing, does he want to go out on loan again when Liverpool could generate some pretty significant money for him?”

TIF Thoughts…

From Ornstein’s comments, it is clear that the journalist is of the belief that, should Brewster leave the club over the remaining days of the summer transfer window, it will more than likely be on a permanent basis rather than a loan deal.

In our opinion, considering Brewster’s performances in the Championship last season, the player does indeed appear to have potential, so selling the 20-year-old permanently could end up coming back to haunt Liverpool further down the line.

Having said that, some reports suggest that Klopp’s side is insisting that a buy-back clause be inserted to any potential deal to sell the player, which could be a decent away of ensuring that they have the first call on re-signing the player, should he go on to prove a massive hit away from Liverpool.
