Phil Hay has been speaking on the latest edition of The Phil Hay Show from The Athletic and he has been talking about all things relating to Leeds United.

Nice easy one to start with, who scored Leeds' first goal of the PL season?

One of the points that he talked about in detail was where he thinks Leeds could strengthen their squad in the remainder of the transfer window.

It seems as if Hay would like to see the Whites add another versatile attacking player and a centre-back before the end of the transfer window.

He said: “I think going through the bench and everything else, it would not be a bad thing at all for Leeds to get to the end of the window with another couple added, particularly somebody who can play as a [number] 10 or as a winger just for a bit of variation.

“And potentially another centre-back, if that can be done in a way that doesn’t just leave somebody relatively experienced kicking around Thorp Arch with no chance of a game.”

Do you agree with Hay?

Yes, these are the areas we need to improve

TIF Thoughts…

Leeds currently have the likes of Pablo Hernandez, Tyler Roberts, and Mateusz Klich as players who can feature as a number ten (attacking midfielder).

However, Roberts has only ever made two appearances in the top-flight, Klich has only made one, though he did score in that game, and Hernandez is 35 years old but has made 58 Premier League appearances, in which he scored five goals and made 15 assists.

So, the current options are either old or inexperienced in the Premier League, so you can see why Hay thinks the Whites might need someone else to fill that role.

They have been heavily linked with Rodrigo de Paul, who can play as a number ten (Transfermarkt) and has thrived in his past two seasons in Serie A with Udinese, scoring 16 goals and providing 14 assists over those two campaigns. (WhoScored)

De Paul has never played in the Premier League, but he is proven in Serie A, so could he be the man to improve Leeds’ squad?

In terms of a centre-back, the Whites have been heavily linked with 18-year-old Josko Gvardiol, so he could be that extra centre-back that Hay thinks Leeds need.

It will be intriguing to see if the Whites manage to strengthen the areas in which Hay thinks they need improvement.
