Adam Pope of the BBC recently joined the panel on the Talking Shutt podcast to discuss all things Leeds United and one of the subjects touched upon was the club’s reported interest in the Udinese player Rodrigo de Paul.

According to the Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, talks are ongoing over a potential move for the attacking midfielder that would see him join up with his compatriot Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road. Romano does, however, go on to say that the Serie A club are not willing to negotiate for anything less than €40m (£36.4m) – which could prove an issue.

Starting with an easy one how many points did Leeds end the season with?

Pope shared his view on the reports linking De Paul with a move to Yorkshire, here is what he had to say:

“I’m not sure about Rodrigo de Paul and how much there is in that. There is definitely interest, clearly, but I’m not sure how much has been pushed by certain sides. Yes, I think that would be a great addition, but he [Bielsa] loves a winger, doesn’t he?”

Are Udinese asking for too much money for Rodrigo De Paul?

TIF Thoughts…

De Paul enjoyed a solid season in the Italian top-flight last season despite his side finishing in 13th place. The 26-year-old made 34 appearances in Serie A last season, contributing seven goals and six assists (via WhoScored.com).

The player’s individual performance rating was 7.25/10 and he was named the man of the match on eight occasions – further evidence that he personally enjoyed a successful season.

According to Transfermarkt, De Paul’s current value stands at £27m and therefore you can understand why €40m (£36.4m) may be seen as a slightly unreasonable asking price.
