Gary Devonport, host of the Talking Shutt podcast, has been discussing the reports linking Daniel James with a move to Leeds United during this window.

Despite Leeds’ reported interest in the 22-year-old, according to the Manchester Evening News, the winger is ‘not expected’ to leave Old Trafford between now and the closure of the transfer window.

Nice easy one to start with, who scored Leeds' first goal of the PL season?

However, despite that, the podcaster has a “gut feeling” that the Welsh international will end up at Elland Road and he appears to be excited by that prospect. Here is what he had to say:

“I get a gut feeling that Dan James will be a Leeds player by the end of this window.

“It very much looks like [Manchester United] are in for a wide player – and if that is the case, then Dan James suddenly becomes surplus to requirements.

“He’s one of these players that Bielsa rates highly, [he] desperately wanted him two seasons ago.”

James joined the Premier League club from Swansea City back in July 2019 in a deal reportedly worth £16m (as per Transfermarkt). Since swapping the Championship for the top-flight, the player has made 47 appearances in United’s colours, scoring four goals and providing his teammates with seven assists.

TIF Thoughts…

Leeds’ chances of landing James could be dependent on whether or not Manchester United are able to land Jadon Sancho during this window, a player they are credited with an interest in.

If the £17.1m-rated player was to join the Yorkshire-based outfit, in our view, there is no guarantee he would be a starter given Bielsa’s wingers Helder Costa and Jack Harrison have both started the season well with the Portuguese scoring twice in the club’s opening two Premier League fixtures and the Manchester City loanee scoring at Anfield on the opening day.
