Phil Hay has been speaking on the latest edition of The Athletic’s The Phil Hay Show about all things relating to Leeds United.

Nice easy one to start with, who scored Leeds' first goal of the PL season?

One of the points that he mentioned was Ben White and how he has played for Brighton and Hove Albion so far this season.

It seems as if Hay has been impressed by White this season so far and thinks that if the Whites had signed him, perhaps Leeds’ defence would have been more organised than it is now.

He said: “I don’t know how much you’ve followed Ben White in the early weeks of the season, but he’s been very, very good down at Brighton.

“I think it’s not unfair to say that if he was still here, there would be more understanding in the defence; there would be more fluency and you would have a very familiar four across the back who would know what each other are doing.”

Are you bothered about what Ben White does?

No, he isn't our player anymore

Yes, keen to see how he does

TIF Thoughts…

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Elland Road, made 46 league appearances, and earned an impressive average rating of 7.09.

The Whites had three bids rejected for him, and he has started the first two league games for the Seagulls in the Premier League, earning an average rating of 6.52 so far.

In contrast, Leeds have bought Robin Koch and Diego Llorente and have conceded seven goals in their first two league games.

Considering White played 38 games with Liam Cooper, 46 games with Stuart Dallas and 38 games with Luke Ayling last season, you can see why Hay makes the point that the defence might have more understanding if he was there.

However, he has gone now and has had an average start to the season, so it is up to Leeds to resolve their defensive problems with what they have rather than worrying about White is doing.
