Fans of Leeds United have been reacting to a post on Twitter, in which news is relayed of Anthony Taylor’s appointment as referee for the club’s upcoming Premier League match with Fulham.

The Premier League confirmed earlier this week that Taylor would be the referee for United’s fixture with Fulham this Saturday, with Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn being the assistants, Kevin Friend as fourth official and Stuart Attwell being the VAR official.

Nice easy one to start with, who scored Leeds' first goal of the PL season?

After this announcement was made, one Leeds supporter took to Twitter to criticise Taylor, claiming that fans of the club ‘don’t have the best memories of the Wythenshawe-based ref’.

They recall that Taylor ‘sent [Gaetano] Berardi off in the play-off semi-final against Derby last season’ and also that the referee is known for ‘first allowing and then disallowing a [Liam] Cooper goal a few years back when [Sheffield] Wednesday’s [Fernando] Forestieri was judged to still be leaving the field of play when the free-kick was taken.’

In reaction to these tweets, plenty of the Leeds faithful flocked to have their say on the appointment, with many seemingly in agreement that they are not the biggest fans of the referee.

In total, Taylor has overseen 11 matches in which Leeds have been involved, with the club winning four of these fixtures, drawing two and losing five.

Rather strangely, the four times that Leeds have won with Taylor as referee were the first four games in which he officiated the club, with United failing to win a single game under the official since the 2010/11 Championship season.

Are you disappointed to hear that Taylor will be the referee for the Fulham match?

No

Taylor has given Leeds players 24 yellow cards in all, with four of these turning into reds after a second yellow was awarded, including, as the Leeds fan mentioned in her tweet, a sending-off for Berardi in last year’s play-off semi-final defeat to Derby.

All in all, it would seem the majority of these Leeds fans are disappointed that Taylor will be overseeing their game against Fulham at the weekend, and considering the fact that Leeds haven’t won with the referee in charge for almost a decade, it is not particularly difficult to see why they feel this way.
