Alex Chaffer, who is an international content manager for the Bundesliga, was recently a guest on the Talking More Shutt podcast.

During the show, titled ‘Robin Koch Special’, the Whites’ recent signing was discussed in great detail. However, Chaffer, who is also a Leeds supporter, also shared his view on another German-based player the Yorkshire giants have been linked with this summer in Stuttgart’s Nicolas Gonzalez.

Stuttgart earned promotion back to Germany’s top flight last season and Gonzalez contributed by scoring 14 goals and providing three assists across 27 appearances in the second tier (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

Starting with an easy one how many points did Leeds end the season with?

When asked who else would be a good fit for Leeds following Koch’s arrival, he made reference to the rumoured interest in the player and here is what he had to say on the Argentine.

“That would be a fantastic signing because he’s a goalscoring winger who can play either side and bring us that variation. He would be a really interesting one, even if he’s just been promoted [to the Bundesliga], he’s definitely in good form and would be a good player to develop as well.”

TIF Thoughts…

According to WhoScored.com, his average performance rating in the German second tier last season was an impressive 7.31/10. He was also named the man of the match on four occasions throughout the campaign.

He averaged 2.7 shots per game and 2.1 dribbles per game, while Gonzalez’s strengths are said to be his ability to dribble and his success in aerial duels. Taking all of the above into consideration and his impressive goal record, we can understand why Chaffer views him as somebody who could be a good fit for Leeds United if they were to move for him.
