On the most recent episode of the TIFO Podcast for The Athletic, Alex Stewart, Joe Devine, and Seb Stafford-Bloor have been discussing some of the ‘sensible transfers’ that Everton should consider this summer.

One player discussed on the podcast as a potential option for Everton this summer was Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure. The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to Goodison Park in recent weeks, following the Hornets’ relegation to the Championship and it seems as if those on the podcast believe he would be an excellent addition to Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

To kick-off this quiz on Carlo Ancelotti on the side of easy, which side was his first game on the touchline at Goodison Park against?

Here’s what Stafford-Bloor had to say about the 27-year-old on the podcast:

“I quite like Abdoulaye Doucoure – another player they’ve chased over the summer – I think he would do very, very well. He’s been used in a slightly more advanced role for Watford, and actually a succession of Watford managers have messed about with his position to the detriment of his performance, but if the asking price isn’t too prohibitive, that would be quite an easy transfer to conclude and a quick way of making your midfield not only a little bit better, but a little bit more formidable. I think that’s something that Everton’s midfield has been lacking for a while. I think he’s really underrated.”

TIF Thoughts…

Last season in the Premier League, Doucoure was a mainstay in the Watford side, making 37 appearances in the top-flight, contributing four goals and two assists, averaging a less than impressive 6.67 rating (per WhoScored).

Do you think Everton will sign Doucoure this summer?

You could argue that Ancelotti’s side are in need of a midfielder, considering Jean-Philippe Gbamin’s injury problems in his time with the Toffees, but they will be hoping that Doucoure can rediscover his form from the 2017/18 Premier League season, when he averaged an impressive 7.00 rating, should he make the move to Goodison Park this summer.
