Aston Villa podcaster Danny Raza has been sharing his thoughts on a potential move to Villa Park for AFC Bournemouth attacker Josh King.

This comes after Raza recently made an appearance on the latest episode of Villa-themed podcast Holtecast where he spoke about the latest news topics concerning Dean Smith’s side at the moment.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

After it was recently reported that Villa are set to make a bid of £16 million to try and sign King this summer, Raza shared his thoughts on the potential deal.

He said: “I think he offers movement. I think we’ve got somebody who can play across the wings. I think we need that at times. It seemed like we didn’t have a lot of penetration on the left and right wings.

“He is 28, that’s the only thing that worries me about the £16 million price tag. I almost feel like I wouldn’t want us paying anything more than that and I think the other thing is his goalscoring record isn’t great, so he’s not the guy that’s going to come in and bang in 20 goals for us. Just forget about it. It’s not going to happen. Good footballer, though.”

Bournemouth signed King, who is currently valued at £14.4 million, on a free transfer from Blackburn Rovers back in the 2015 summer transfer window.

Since then, the Norwegian has gone on to make 170 appearances for the club, in which he has managed to score a total of 50 goals and provide 17 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

The 2019/20 Premier League season saw King make 26 appearances for the Cherries, where he notched six goals and picked up four assists. His performances earned him a season rating of 6.76/10, making him Bournemouth’s third-highest-rated player for the previous campaign (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

While King would offer Villa an extra attacking option if he were to make the move to Villa Park this summer, it appears that Raza has some doubts over whether King could have a big impact on the team.

Having scored 48 goals in 161 Premier League appearances, King would certainly bring a decent amount of Premier League experience with him, which could be useful for Villa if they want to avoid another relegation battle this season after finishing in 17th place in the league table last term.
