Aston Villa podcaster Andy Bates has been sharing his thoughts on Villa striker Keinan Davis and his immediate future at the club.
This comes after Bates recently made an appearance on Villa-themed podcast Gather ‘Round The Lamp where he spoke about a range of topics related to Dean Smith’s side.
On the subject of Davis, who scored Villa’s third goal in their 3-1 win over League One side Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup last week, Bates had this to say on the forward.
He said: “I quite like the idea of giving him an extension to his contract because he’s in a position where he’s got one year to go, I think he’s due for a loan, I don’t think he’s going to get many minutes at Villa, I think it could be a wasted season for him, potentially.
“So I think it’s a good thing for him to go on loan, but you don’t want him to then get to the end of his loan spell and to just leave, I think he’s got enough about him to really develop with a season on loan.”
Davis made his senior debut for Villa back in January 2017. Since then, the 22-year-old has made 68 appearances for Villa over which he has only managed to score five goals and provide five assists.
The striker made 18 appearances for Villa throughout their 2019/20 Premier League season, earning himself a season rating of 6.22/10 for his performances (per WhoScored).

Given how Davis only played 538 minutes of Premier League action for Villa last season, maybe a loan move away to a club where he would be a guaranteed starter would be beneficial for the striker’s development.
It will be interesting to see if any club offers to take the Englishman, who is currently valued at £2.07 million, on a temporary loan deal away from Villa in the coming weeks.
