Aston Villa podcaster Danny Raza, who currently works for the BBC, has been discussing Villa defender Ahmed Elmohamady and his future at the Birmingham club.

This comes after Raza recently made an appearance on Villa-themed podcast Holtecast where he spoke about a variety of subjects concerning the club at this moment in time.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

After it was recently revealed that Villa have secured the signing of right-back Matty Cash from Nottingham Forest on a five-year deal for a transfer fee of £16 million, Raza shared his thoughts on what this means for Elmohamady moving forward.

He said: “I think what you’ve got to consider is that Elmohamady has a year until the end of his contract, so I wonder whether he’s going to be in Dean Smith’s plans; is he going to move into coaching? What is he going to do with him?”

Elmohamady, who is currently valued at £1.8 million, signed for Villa back in the 2017 summer transfer window from Hull City for a fee of £990k.

Since then, the Egyptian has gone on to make 113 appearances for the club in which he has managed to score four goals and provide an impressive 18 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

The 2019/20 season saw the right-back make just 18 league appearances for Villa and earn himself a fairly underwhelming season rating of 6.55/10 for his performances in those games (per WhoScored).

Do you think Cash's arrival at Villa means the end of the road for Elmohamady?

TIF Thoughts…

Now that Villa have got Cash and Frederic Guilbert in their squad that can play in the right-back position as well as Elmohamady, this could now raise questions over the Egyptian’s immediate future at the club as it has for Raza.

It will be intriguing to see if Smith will be able to utilise all three right-backs in his squad throughout the 2020/21 season.
