On the latest episode of the Claret and Blue podcast, Dan Rolinson and James Rushton were joined by Brentford fan Billy Grant to discuss the recent signing of Ollie Watkins, as well as some of the other transfer rumours surrounding Aston Villa.

One topic of discussion on the recent podcast was Keinan Davis. The 22-year-old became something of a regular in Dean Smith’s side after the Premier League restart, perhaps due to the injury suffered by Wesley, as he made 18 appearances in the Premier League for the Villans. However, following the signing of Ollie Watkins earlier this week, those on the podcast seem to believe that a loan move for the academy graduate could be on the cards.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

Here’s what Rushton had to say about Davis and his future at Villa on the podcast:

“I think Davis is the one that you ship out on loan because he does have very clear potential there. He wasn’t scoring at Premier League level, but he was performing at Premier League level, so I think [a] Championship loan spell [is] nailed on, I would do that.”

TIF Thoughts…

Davis’ average rating of 6.22 in the Premier League last season doesn’t really back up Rushton’s point that he was performing at a Premier League level.

Do you agree that Davis needs a loan spell?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The young striker has now made 67 appearances for the senior side at the Birmingham club; contributing just four goals and five assists (per Transfermarkt), which does suggest that he needs a loan spell at a lower level where maybe he can work on improving his ability to find the back of the net, and perhaps return to Dean Smith’s side a much more confident player in front of goal.
