Aston Villa journalist Dan Bardell has been singing the praises of the club’s 19-year-old attacking-midfielder, Jacob Ramsey, for his performance in the Birmingham club’s recent 3-1 Carabao Cup victory over Burton Albion.

This comes after Bardell recently made an appearance on The Villa View Podcast to talk about the win against the League One side.

Jack Grealish quiz: First up, how old is the Villa captain?

On the topic of Ramsey, who started the match at the Pirelli Stadium in midweek, Bardell had this to say about the teenager’s performance in the win.

He said: “I think it’s difficult, even for him, to come in, he’s obviously very, very keen to impress. I thought he showed some bright moments, some nice touches. You can see that he’s got a bit about him and that he wasn’t really overawed by the occasion of starting a game in the cup for Villa.

“You could see he really wanted to link up with [Jack] Grealish, didn’t he, he wanted to try and get around Grealish, two creative players there and he’s obviously got a very good future.”

Ramsey made his senior debut for Villa back in 2019 when the club were in the Championship. Overall, the teenager has only made four senior appearances for Dean Smith’s side (per Transfermarkt).

Despite this praise from Bardell, Ramsey only picked up a match rating of 6.53/10 after being substituted off in the second half of the match against Burton, the third-lowest of any Villa player that made an appearance in the game.

TIF Thoughts…

It’s great that Smith gave Ramsey a chance to show what he is capable of in Villa’s senior team in midweek. It’s also nice to hear the praise that Bardell had for him and that he thinks the midfielder will go on to have a big future at the club.

Despite not being one of Villa’s best performers against Burton, hopefully, this latest appearance will be a good step for him to continue his development at the club.
