Aston Villa journalist Ashley Preece has shared his thoughts on the Birmingham club making a potential transfer move for Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster.

This comes after Preece recently made an appearance on the Birmingham Mail’s Claret & Blue Podcast where he spoke about the latest news topics concerning Dean Smith’s side at the moment.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

After it was recently reported that Villa are interested in signing Brewster this summer for an alleged fee of £20 million, Preece shared his thoughts on this potential deal.

He said: “Villa looked at him in January, to be fair. They wanted a bit more experience there, but they signed [Borja] Baston and [Mbwana] Samatta – scratch your head at that. Villa were interested back in January, they didn’t sign him, [Brewster] went to Swansea, scored 11 in 22, banged them in, looked a frightening prospect, but he wants to stay at Liverpool. So, I think the ball’s in Liverpool’s court there and whether they want to cash in and get a number nine in to rival [Roberto] Firmino, I don’t know, but [there is] massive, massive potential in Brewster.

“£20 million is a decent deal to be fair, I think he can be worth treble that in a couple of years, so if Villa can do that, that’s one that would excite me.”

After working his way through the youth system at Liverpool, Brewster had a successful loan spell at Swansea City last season where he scored 11 goals in 22 appearances as Preece mentioned in the podcast.

TIF Thoughts…

If Villa were originally interested in signing Brewster back in January before he went on his loan deal to Swansea as Preece said, then there could be every chance that the Birmingham club could make this reported attempt to sign the striker once again this summer.

With Brewster yet to make an appearance in the Premier League for Liverpool, it would be interesting to see how he would fare in the top-flight for Villa if he does make the move to Villa Park this summer after proving his worth in the Championship last season.
