David Ornstein of The Athletic has been discussing Arsenal’s chances of landing Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey this summer during a recent edition of The Ornstein & Chapman Podcast.

Arsenal are understood to be in the market for a central midfield player despite recently securing Dani Ceballos’ services from Real Madrid for another season. It’s reported that Lucas Torreira could be on his way back to Italy and that the club are hoping to use Matteo Guendouzi as a makeweight in a deal for Houssem Aouar which would in our view, leave Mikel Arteta slightly short in terms of midfield options.

Can you score 20/20 on this Premier League quiz? Starting off easy, who is the top scorer in the Premier League this season?

When providing the latest regarding the club’s interest in the Ghanaian, here is what Ornstein had to say:

“We know that Atletico Madrid are indicating that they would only let him go for his release clause, which is €50m (£45.2m). He’s got very high salary expectations as well – you could say understandably, for an experienced Champions League player and a high performer who would be a real landmark signing for Arsenal. And so we’ll have to see what happens.”

TIF Thoughts…

The 27-year-old made 35 appearances in La Liga last season for Diego Simeone’s side and according to WhoScored.com, his average performance rating was an impressive 7.08/10. Partey’s strengths are said to be in his ability to intercept, tackle, shoot from distance, dribble and win aerial duels.

In our view, taking the above into consideration, it could be argued that the £36m-rated player is close to being the complete midfielder and therefore, if Arsenal are able to land him this summer, we believe he would improve the team significantly.
