ESPN’s Colin Udoh has been discussing whom, in his view, Arsenal need more out of Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey.

The Gunners have been linked with both players during this transfer window but for the time being at least, no deal is in place that would see either of the pair come to the Emirates Stadium.

The pundit was very clear on which of the central midfielders he believes they should prioritise between now and 5th October, here is what he had to say:

“I’d say Partey, he brings energy, he is box-to-box, he is the kind of player who can hold the midfield down for them.

“[This] Arsenal team needs a [Patrick] Vieira reincarnation so to speak and Partey gives them exactly that.”

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

TIF Thoughts…

Udoh drew comparisons between the £36m-rated Atletico Madrid man and former Arsenal hero Patrick Vieira but unless the North London club is willing to activate the player’s release clause of £45m, it seems unlikely that he will join Mikel Arteta’s side.

Partey’s strengths are said to be in his ability to dribble, intercept balls, tackle and win aerial duels (as per WhoScored). This may be why the pundit has compared the Ghanaian to Patrick Vieira.

Would you rather sign Thomas Partey over Houssem Aouar?

The 29-year-old made 35 appearances in La Liga last season, contributing three goals and providing no assists. According to WhoScored, his average performance rating was an impressive 7.08/10.

Therefore, you can understand why Diego Simeone’s side is unwilling to entertain any offer below the aforementioned release clause.
